Recently two books have been published from a couple of very good writers.

Escape by Bike from Josh Cunningham

Short description:

Joshua Cunningham spent eleven months cycling from the UK to Hong Kong, a journey that took him through twenty-six countries and across 21,000 kilometres of the Eurasian landmass. He captured thousands of breathtaking photographs and acquired the wealth of invaluable experience he shares here, from how to arrange travel and select the best bike to what to pack for each climate and terrain, and how to choose and navigate the route. Equal parts travelogue and practical guide, this exhilarating account divides the stages of his tour into five chapters, each focusing on a specific geographical environment: forest, desert, mountain, tropical and urban.

The other book With the Sun on Our Right is from Tim Moss.

Tim and his wife Laura are the people behind the English Cycle Touring Festival http://cycletouringfestival.co.uk/ and the database for long distance cycle journeys http://thenextchallenge.org/ldcj/

With the Sun on Our Right http://thenextchallenge.org/books/sun/

Short description:

On their travels, Tim and Laura met a fascinating array of people and were repeatedly overwhelmed by the hospitality they received. From Turkey to Thailand and Oman to Japan, complete strangers invited these two grubby cyclists into their homes at the drop of a hat, offering the pair a unique and privileged insight into the lives of people from all walks of life.

Follow Tim and Laura around the world as they meet a gun-toting sheriff on the Mexican border, a Taksim Square protester who makes a mean kebab and the Albanians who say yes when they really mean no. Join them as they stay with Buddhist monks, Georgian nuns, Turkish imams and Southern Baptists. And come along for the ride as they see behind the sanctions in Iran, hear about life after Hurricane Rita and experience hospitality even in the wake of violence and despair.

Note: I haven’t read either book yet, but am hoping to do so in the near future.

So if you’re looking for something to read this upcoming summer – why not check them out.
