Renting a road bike in Amsterdam

Hello

Sorry for writing in English, unfortunately I don't know any dutch... Hopefully this is an appropriate forum to ask this question, please let me know otherwise :)

I'm going to Amsterdam in a couple of weeks, and I'd be interested in renting a proper road bike (race bike, good quality components), but all I can find is places that rent out standard bikes.

Anyone here that can help me? Please write in english so I can understand :)

/Fredrik
Hello Fredrik,

Renting a bicycle at http://www.ov-fiets.nl/engels/index.htm. I don't know if this is the thing you're searching. Other cycling information in the Netherlands is placed on my website and here http://www.wereldfietser.nl/index.php?o ... &Itemid=54.

Have a nice trip!

Blanche
Cannot really help you, but i would just try to contact a bicycle-shop. If you can get a bike, consider doing your trip northwards of Amsterdam.

Hi Frederik,

I found this on the web (via www.tour.tr > http://www.global-cyclist.com)
Translation is via Altavista. The company is in Utrecht (40 km from Amsterdam and a great startpoint for cycling) and is called Snel. (which is also translated :-) to Rapidly)

Call them on http://www.sneltweewielers.nl/openingstijden/index.php
choose 1 for shop
Just talked to them, as of mid of september 2007 there are bikes availble. They are being rented including Othlieb bags (waterproof)

Good luck.

Greetings Hans

RAPIDLY bicycles offer the choice from two models holiday bicycles you: the safari LX or savanna LX. The safari is an hybrid bike with 28 wheels. Savanna is a bike with 26 wheels. The safari is possible in ladies - and lord version is obtained, savanna has one version which is arranged both for women and men. At the safari and savanna have front - and backluggagecarriers, pump, lock, lights, kilometre meter and two bidons. Also a repairset with tool and spare belong to the standard equipment. The hiring costs for the bicycles are: 3 dgn 55, - (weekend) 1 week 120, -.2 wk 210, -.3 wk 305, -.4 wk 400, - Per week extra 100, - per day extra 20, - Own risk at damage 50, - own risk at theft 100, - guarantee 200, - At teh start of renting the bicycle, you must pay guarantormoney of 200 euro and the rent. Also you need identity papers, don't forget to take these along!! It practically always almost (or even entirely) a new bicycle is."

These Snel bikes are good bikes, but they are touring bikes, not proper road bikes. Moreover, it gets pretty expensive. Is it just for a couple of days, or something longer? If it is for a longer period of time, you are better off bying a second hand road bike. Even pretty decent ones can be surprisingly cheap. 10-20 year old steel Koga Miyata road bikes are probably your best bet: there are quite a few of them around, and they were good bikes.
good luck,
Willem
