Professional bicycle touring film

Mike Dion is a professional producer – director who has just finished a feature length documentary over riding the Continental Divide route in the U.S.A. A two minute teaser of his film can be seen on Vimeo
http://vimeo.com/6743995 . Although it’s short, the teaser on vimeo is a good place to pick up ideas and inspiration for all of the wereldfietsers who are busy filming their trips.

Thanks Grace!

Blanche – they are carrying their own baggage see:
http://tourdivide.org/the_rules but they are also travelling more Spartan than most of us would care to travel – including myself!!! See also:
http://www.adventurecycling.org/features/ultralight.cfm for an explanation of packing for ultra light backcountry bicycle touring.
I have watched some of the films in the Vimeo wereldfietser group, but quite often I wish that there was more information contained in their videos such as; who is this cyclist? Why did they choose to go cycling in that specific country? What was the high point of the trip? Was it tough cycling? Would they want to go there again? etc. etc
The Tour Divide teaser shows a good technique on how to give the viewers information about the trip. In the teaser they filmed the participants talking about the trip. The film editor knew that just watching somebody talk for a couple of minutes is boring. So to get around that problem, he puts in just a couple of seconds of that person talking, than cuts away to other sequences such as cycling while the person goes on talking. With that film technique – the viewer gets to watch beautiful cycling sequences, yet also receives verbally a lot of information about the trip and they even know who’s telling us this information.

Thank you for your feedback and tips to make better video's. It is always helpful.
But don't forget you compare a profesional with the enthousiastic cyclers in -
Traveling the world on a bicycle-
who use their sparetime to fabricate a time-consuming video.

Grace,
Where can the whole documentary be seen? Will it be shown on TV? Will it be for sale? How long is the documentary? Why was it made?
In short, where to find more information?

Hi Blanche,
I didn’t mean to compare the tour divide video with the wereldfietsers videos at all. I definitely realize that making a video is very, very time consuming. The only reason that I posted information over the video is because I’m guessing that some of the wereldfietsers who film their trips are always on the lookout for new tips, tricks and inspiration on how to improve their own videos.
Hans – I have no answers to your questions except for: “where you can find more information”

Thanks for the replies in English, but I can read and speak dutch. Unfortunately when I write in Dutch – the Microsoft word spelling and grammar controle “goes wild” since I make so many mistakes. So I mainly stick to writing in English.

Hi Grace, indeed we are non-professionals looking for tips to improve our video's. Thats why I thanked you for the info
