Took the bus from Vegas to Benson, east of Tuscon and cycled to the Mexican border. I passed some empty houses and was suddenly in a mexican street, great but I didn`t see any customs so I went back, looking for american immigration. After a while I found them on the outgoing side of the border, from Mexico to USA and took care of my green visa waiver. Now looking for mexican immigration and found them also in an small office, went in and sat down. The immigration officer asked from what country I am and I said Olanda, ja toch !!! He looked in a map and did it for a long time, finally he said you need visa. I said, no I do not need visa ! He looked again and said, again after a while, you need visa. I said I don`t understand, my book says I Do not need visa, just a tourist permit, could I have it for 90 days por favor ? He said no, you need to go to ambassy and get visa stamp, then come back here. I asked, where is ambassy, he said in Douglas, today closed ( sunday ), come back tomorrow. I said no, this issen`t happening, look I DO NOT NEED visa, just a tourist permit, plaese give me one ? He looks again in his map and says no, here look. I looked and saw immediately what was wrong, he was looking at Antilles de Olanda... I said , no that is not where I am from, I am from Olanda Europa ! H starts looking agian in his map for quite a time, stands up and gave me a tourist permit to fill in... pfffff, finally, glad that I can be so volhardend sometimes... I asked for 90 days, he gave me 30, I said, look I am with a bicycle, Mexico es grande, 30 days in not enough. He asked you will 2 months and I agreed; sthe status I have now is of an transmigrant. Later, in front of my tent I read on the back of the permit that a transmigrant status in only valid for 30 days... Now, I don`t expect trouble cause I think I will need 3 weeks here in Mexico, I am taking the train or bus from nuevo casas grandes to Theotihucan to save some time. Cycled now two days here and the wind is strong, westwards, lightly in my back so okay ! Tonight free camping at a hotel, didn`n want to pay 150 peses = 15 dollars for a room so I got myself a nice place for my tent for free, shower included, ha ha ! Well, greetings to all !

En ik geloof dat jij er ook niet echt Antilliaans uitziet.
In ieder geval kan je weer een land aan je lijst toevoegen.
Dit weekend weer naar Utrecht, de kargadoor. Er zal wel veel over je gekletst worden.(geintje)

Hoi allen,
Nou John, ik moet zeggen dat ik toch aardig op een antiliaan begin te lijken hoor met die heerlijke temperaturen van rond de 27 graden en die heerlijke zon heel de dag brandend op m´n huid, zo lekker warm joh ! Oh, ehhh, hoe is het weer bij jullie trouwens, hi hi ?
Veel plezier bij de kargadoor, zal wel lukken denk ik. Ik heb af en toe niet zo heel veel tijd met al dat geinternet, er moet ook nog gewerkt worden ha ha. EEn paar vraagjes uit het verleden : waarom mijn fiets Leo heet ? Geen idee, ik twee weken moeten raden voordat ik het goed had, hij wilde ook geen tip geven ofzo...Het fietsen gaat fantastisch, nog geen lekke banden, wat wil je met marathon xr, wel een gebroken spaak maarja na 2700 km mag dat ook wel ! Ik ben ni in Chihauhau ofzo en pak vanmiddag de bus naar Queretaro, 200 km NW van Mexico City en van daar alles fietsen, beginnend naar Theotihuacan en zo verder naar het zuiden. Heb al een paar collega fietsers onmoet, in USA dan, oa een zwitser die ook naar La Paz gaat, alleen via Baja California en hij komt een paar maanden later aan. Het verkeer is super hier in Mexico, ze wijken prima uit op de wegen, toeteren en zwaaien veel, vooral de truckers.

Ps Rena, hoe is het met jouw voorbereidingen, de route die jij noemde om mee te beginnen is erg leuk en mooi, ik hem hem ook gereden toern ik naar Rome ging. Hier in Mexico kijk ik gewoon op de kaart een paar dagen vooruit en plan zo een beetje waar ik zal overnachten en mijn kleertjes wassen enzo. Doeiiiiiiiiiiii

Om maar even met hetzelfde te beginnen.... het is hier super stralend zonnig weer, hetzelfde als bij jou dus, alleen hier is het een ijzig temparatuurtje........ ben je nu tevreden?!?!?!

Mijn voorbereiding gaat ook fantastisch, het is eigenlijk vooral met een glaasje wijn boven de landkaart en boeken hangen....... niks mis mee dus!

John mag niet klagen hoor, want hij komt zelf net terug uit Libanon. Hij zal ons morgen, bij de Kargador, wel weer de oren van 't hood vertellen (hahahaha).

Hai everyone,
Yesterday I visited Theotihuacan, the temples of the moon and sun, 2000 years old. Very nice, had a ¨fight¨ with security, wouldn¨t let my bike in and I was fixed on taking a fotograph of the temples with my bike Leo [ Lars Even Onderweg ] nice found Gudy, ha ha in front of it. At the second gate it was posssible. It was sunday so it was very busy but it was also very nice to see the temples. The day before Theotihuacan I spend the nights at a large house, say a villa. A lot of cars in front so I thought maybe there is a party and I can join it... The senor the casa allowed me to stay on his perfectly mowed lawn and indeed invided me for a ... barbecue, yahoo !!!!!! Lots of tortillas and even more beer which is by the way better than in America. Had a wonderfull evening with the two daughters and their boyfriends, getting a little drunk. It was a catholic party, forgotten the name, had to do with namegiving I believe...
This morning a strange experience, 0600 and I heard something falling on my tent, very small but very many...It went on for two or three minutos, was wet and came out of the sky. Can somebody tell me what it was ha ha, forgotten the name with all the blue sky´s.
I am now going to Tehuacan, 200 km southeast of Mexico City, hope to reach it in two days.

Ps my mobile phone is only on a few hours in a week i guess, didin´t receive any sms except for two test sms from naan. Greetings Lars

ik hoorde met de bijeenkomst dit weekend dat je aan het fietsen bent en heb dus zojuist maar even je verhaal gelezen, wat ontzettend gaaf wat je aan het doen bent zeg! kom je onderweg wel eens fietsers tegen of niet? en is er altijd een camping of slaap je ook gewoon zo buiten in de open lucht zeg maar?

Als vader maak ik me toch wel ernstig zorgen als ik je laatste belevenissen lees in je verslaggeving.

Een groot feest in het losbandige katholieke leven in Mexico. Eetfestijnen, drank, vrouwen en dat terwijl hun vrienden erbij zijn ............... Lars, dat heb ik je toch niet geleerd ?
Je tent stond op het netjes gemaaide gazon, dat vertelde je, maar waar heb jij de nacht doorgebracht ........... he, he, he !!!

Als jij soms denkt dat ik dit schrijf omdat ik jaloers ben heb je het helemaal mis. Ik kan namelijk niet zo goed en zover fietsen als jij !
Ik heb geaarzeld dit bericht aan jou in de openbaarheid te plaatsen maar ik hecht eraan dat je clubgenoten weten dat ik je goed heb opgevoed.

Lars, hardstikke goed zoals het tot nu toe gaat, ik ben zo trots als een aap met zeven staarten.

Hee pap en Corry, hoe doen jullie dat op het forum, toch ook maar lid geworden van deze fantastische vereniging
En ja, over opvoeding niets dan lof, slijm slijm. Het was inderdaad een leuk feest met veel bier !!! Wel goed geslapen ( op het pas gemaaide gras ha ha )

Hee Nathalie, tuurlijk ken ik je nog van de hemelvaarttrektocht, volgend jaar weer ? Er zijn inderdaad heeeeel weinig campings, heel af en toe een hotel ( makkelijk als ik de was moet doen na een weekje fietsen ) en verder ga ik als het 5 uur is op jacht naar een groot huis met een grote tuin, zet dan mijn vermoeiste gezicht op, kijk een beetje zielig, beetje puffen enzo en vraag dan of ik por favor mijn kleine tentje voor 1 nachtje op mag zetten in hun tuin. Met een beetje geluk mag dat en met nog meer geluk word ik zelfs uitgenodigd voor avondeten of ontbijt.
Als er geen huizen zijn en ik ben het zat kampeer ik ook wel in de vrije natuur ( nog maar 3 keer gedaan, wel op de mooiste plekjes ! )

Zolang de drank wijn is, is het goed!!!
Had dat dan gezegd, dan waren we met z'n allen met je meegefietst. Zeker als we geweten hadden dat we 's avonds zo aan tafel konden schuiven en 's morgens na een goed ontbijt werden uitgezwaaid. Je wilde ons zeker niet mee hebben, dat je dat verzwegen heb (hahaha).

Ach, wij drinken de wijn wel gewoon in onze huisjes bij de centrale verwarming dromende van een fietstocht ooit (klinkt dit dramatisch en jaloers genoeg?).

Even serieus Lars, het weer is hier voor de tijd van het jaar, zoals we dat hier zo mooi zeggen, niet slecht. Overdag zo rond de 8, 9 graden. 's Nachts weet ik niet, want dan lig ik te slapen! Dat feesten tot in de late uurtjes laat ik dus aan jou over.......

Ik denk dat het echte koude weer pas komt als we de "Wintertrektocht" gaan maken! Wat denk je zou Frans Bauer weer meegaan?

Ha ha, hahaaaaaaaiiii everyone !
Last few days were very nice, biked a really nice track through the mountains, heavy though but nature si different. Looked like rainforest,so green and so many different species of trees, plant and flowers. Many waterfalls also, altitude arround 2000 meters.
Next day going down to 50 meters, much hotter.Road surrounded by banana trees, coconut palms, sugar cane.
Had some nice conversations with locals, spanish is improving a little bit, with diary I`ll manage. Had since long ago a real full resting day at a wonderfull lake, you know the ingredients, swimming, reading, washing clothes, drinking beer, cleaning bike, eat mexican food, relax. Next day I drove wiht a little help to Vera Cruz at the Mexican Gulf coast, a nice town wit a nice beach, the day after with the bus I hope for the last time to Comitan De Dominguez, near the Guatemala border. Something is driving me to here, also out of Mexico. Not that mexico isn`t nice, it is very nice. The map I have isn`t : scale 1:2.250.000
So when you are biking all day and have ridden lets say 50 km it`s only 2 cm on the map, it works a little `depressing ` And there is something in me that want to go to another country, new advenrtures, money, people and so on...
It is since the last few day`s that I am getting a little used to the idea of so many months vacation, fealing comfortable with it, believing it.
So tomorrow a big day, sea if mexican immigration officer at America`s border is giving me a hard time going out of Mexico, trust all oke. Wouw, can`t wait to go to all these new countries, yahoo !!!!
Hope they have as much internet cafees as in Mexico ( and as cheap ) Greetings Lars

wat gaaf dat je al wat spaans kent, dus chika en chiko klinken je wel bekend in de oren? en natuurlijkniet tegen een vrouw gaan zeggen dat ze een puta is he!!!
waar ga je na mexico eigenlijk naartoe? heb je er lang over gedaan om door mexico heen te rijden? en is het duur allemaal?

hai everyone, this a message from a biker in middle america, now at Lago Atitlan, surrounded by three vulcano's, mountains so green and flowers so beautifull...Yeah, I am enjoying Guatemala enormous, such a difference with Mexico. I like it much more. People are even friendlier than in Mexico. It is hard to bike though, started with a clime of 130 kilometers, only a few km going really fast down and then climbing the road again, a never ending story it seems sometimes. But after such a hard day, you have any idee how good a cold beer tastes and how nice your meal is question mark isnt working. The wonderfull mountains, so though to clime, covered with rain forest, men I like it here !
Have seen coffee plants along the road, strange expirience. Today a resting day before going south, I am now at Panajachel, Lago Atitlan, and then along the coast to the east, El Salvodor where I am gonig to have the next resting dayPap en Corry, if no camping at La Libertad at the coast also. It seems the waves there are one of the highest of middle america, great to surf !!! A pity though I can't surf ha ha ha !!!

around, 99 % chance ha ha, I ask indeed at peopales house if I can camp for one night, so easy !!! I look for a house out of sight of the road and prefer a fenced garden, for more safety, not that I felt one moment unsafe, as I said people are so nice. Sms doesn[t work, I don't put my phone on anymore untill futher notice. If I am biling that way, ha ha, no, my cat is black and white... and in other good hands.
Edith, thanks for your mail and no 50 km a day... tsss, I do that before lunch ha ha. No, I try to make a hundred a day, or 5 pm. 6 pm it is dark and I must be setBuscsitio led by then. So I start looking at 5 pm for a nice house. Sometimes at a hotel in the garden camping.

Nathalie, Mexico is zo groot dat ik thuis al had besloten om een groot stuk met de trein of bus te gaan, vnl noord mexico. Is iets meer geworden uiteindelijk, ik wilde zo graag naar Guatemala dat ik iets mweer de bus heb genomen. Mexico is niet duur, ehh hotel voor 15 dollar of minder. Biertje voor 1 dollar, niet al te gek goedkoop maar wel lekker. Guatema\la is goedkoper.
Rena, Mexico inderdaad dus verlaten en nu in lovely Guatemala. Laatste e mail een week of anderhalf twee gelee geloof ik. Sms werkt niet. Leuk dat de middag in Utrecht zo druk en gezellig was.
Bij de grens maar niet de mexicaanse doune bezocht, gelijk naar de Guatemalaans immigration, why take a rsik if not necessary, ha ha !
And yes, with a smile you have half the world, I think even more...

Hello everyone, everything still okidokie. Am now in La Libertad, south of San Salvador, at the beach. Huge waves here, nice to swim. I am camping at a motel, in the garden, only 2 $ per night, (cold) shower included. Now my laundry is somewhere in a machine, today I am going to repair my bike, yesterday my first flat tire after 4020 km, not bad he !! Need to put a new cable for my gears on which I by the way got for free in a small town, nice people !
Tomorrow I go further to Zacatecoluga, then San Vicenta. Lake 15 septiembre, from there up north, west and north again to the border with Honduras, then to Tegucigalpa and south again. For people without a map, forget it ha ha. I´m still doing terrific if I may say so, yesterday met another biker from the states, San Francisco, hai Brian !!! We biked for a day together, nice talking to him. He had a little trouble with his knees, hope it improves soon at that we see each other again somewhere. At night I am swetting in my tent, temp 29 degrees but I hear the sound of the waves and fall in sleep after a 130 km, that´s no problem...

Namens Lars

Hallo everyone. I am now in Nicaragua, in Leon. Took another route in Honduras, along the coast, so it took me only one day and two hours to cicle this country. The landscape in Honduras were rolling green hills, maybe 100 or 200 meters high, real nice and different. In Nicaragua cicled also along the coast. The road was supposed to be asphalt but due to hurrican Mitch, now 5 years ago, it was a gravel road. In the beginning I liked the gravel road, the sound of sand and little stones under your wheels makes it special. Also in some way it is more adventurous, I don't know. But after 30 or 40 km i'am all shook up and don't like grave anymore.......It always goes like this ha ha !!
Two days ago I met three guys from France, we cicled the last 5 km to a village where we camped at a hotel. Nice conversations in english with a french accent
The weather is so hot, sometimes over 40 degrees. Yesterday in the afternoon it was 30 degrees and it felt a little cold, really !!!
Looking forward to Lago Nicaragua. There is an island in it with two vulcano's on it, perfectly shaped and one has a lagoon inside. So I plan to climb to the tpo and see the lake.
Everything still 100 % okidokie, nice weather, good legs an a good mood and mind, see you !!!!!
